*Older car audio slot loading players and other older slot loaders often had rollers that made physical friction contact with the play side of the CD to load and eject the CD. The slot loaders with rollers are bad because they’re always making contact with the play side, but also because if the CD got stuck, even for a bit, the rollers would.
*I have a slot loading notebook drive on a shelf in my garage (aborted case mod). My wife’s Acer notebook came with one. Here’s one for sale. I haven’t seen a slot load optical drive that was a regular 5¼’ size since my beige SCSI Pioneer DVDROM died.
Edit: The door to the drive compartment is tightly hinged so that it would be best if the drive had a tray to force it open. Slot would be simpler but not the best solution. Slot-loading drive: 1. Slide the disc in. Hint: When replacing the disc in a tray-loading drive with another one, you can save 2 steps in the middle of the process by not closing. No they don’t, most transports are made of plastic, and some cheesy plastic clamping system. If you want a good transport system you have to search for well made ones ...Like the Esoteric Verdes Neo drive is an example of how good a transport can get...there are others too.The goods ones use Aluminum or a combanation of plastic and aluminum. Slot loading means nothing as to the quality of the drive. The best drives I have seen use a drawer. I am not seeing any trend you speak of for slot loaders.Optical Drive Loading Mechanism [tray vs slot]AuthorMessageZiNgA BuRgA Smart Alternative Posts: 17,013.4068Threads: 1,174 Joined: 19th Jan 2007 Reputation: -1.71391E-Pigs: 445.4421Optical Drive Loading Mechanism [tray vs slot] Remembered a friend back in 1998 bought a slot loading optical drive, and had a debate of slot vs tray loaders. So now I will resurrect this epic battle.(for the uninitiated, the majority of optical drives are tray loaded (ie you press the eject button and a tray slides out for you to put your disks in) though there’s a few slot loaders around the place)24/06/2010 09:33 PMtrademark91 Unique?
